John Jay Dickey Diary

Ira Couch

called 'Cy', [also 'Sirah'], Big Creek, Kentucky, April 27, 1898 (Page 2277)

I was born in (blank) County, Kentucky 1812. My father Martin COUCH came to Kentucky from New River (on Holston). Old John CAMPBELL'S wife was my father's sister. Old James LEWIS'S wife another. My father settled at the mouth of Lick Branch in Perry County. He had seven sons; Joe, Thomas, Eli, John, Charlie, Ira. All these are dead but me. He had a brother John who came with him. John had sons: William, Andy, Lige, Dick, the latter died young. My father had another brother James, whose son lives in Clay, "Stutter" John.

My grandfather, John COUCH came with them. My mother was [Sarah] Sally HALL, aunt of Phillip HALL. They came a long time before I was born. My father was born before his parents came here.
