Three Forks of the Kentucky River Historical Association
One of the first Union regiments recruited in the state of Kentucky, the 7th Kentucky Infantry was organized under the command of
Colonel Theophilus T. Garrard, a state Senator and Mexican War veteran. The 7th Kentucky Infantry, which was originally designated the 3rd Kentucky
Infantry and later changed to the 7th Kentucky Infantry, was mustered in on September 22, 1861 at Camp Dick Robinson for a period of three years.

The original members of the 7th Kentucky Infantry were mustered out on October 5, 1864 in Louisville, Kentucky due to expiration of
term in service. On December 24, 1864 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the 7th Kentucky Infantry, consisting of Veterans and Recruits, was veteranized and
consolidated with the 19th and 22nd Kentucky Infantries to form the 7th Kentucky Veteran Infantry, which consisted of four different companies. The
7th Kentucky Veteran Infantry remained in service until March 11, 1866, when the regiment was mustered out of service.
