BOWMAN, JAKE, the son of Robert S (Bud) Bowman and Dicie Jane (Peters) Bowman was born January 19, 1882 at Scoville, Owsley County, Kentucky: was married to Emily McGuire, daughter of Arch B. McGuire, and Helen (Treadway) McGuire, on May 20, 1902. To this marriage was born Six children-- Jennie, (Mrs. Hurston H. Hocomb), Levi, Kentucky; Arch B. Bowman, Endee; Robert S., Sturgeon; James F., Sturgeon, Kentucky; and Ducie who died in Infancy.
Jake Bowman was the 6th child of a family ~ seven, Sarah, Henry, William, Matilda, and John being older and Thomas younger. William and Thomas survive. Mr. Bowman's Bowman ancestry came into Owsley County, Kentucky, shortly after the turn of the past century, and his Peters ancestry fled Virginia, during the Civil War because of Union sympathies. Mr. Bowman united with the Christian Church on August 18, 1922, and he has been a deacon in his church over 20 years. He was a past Master of New Hope Lodge No 564, Free and Accepted Masons, and had been an active Mason over 30 years
Mr. Bowman was known for having had no hesitancy in fighting for the right as he saw the right. He never concealed his actions; was often outspoken; and it is felt that the life he lived speaks for itself.
Funeral Services were conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. at the family cemetery at Endee by R. B. Baker (My Grandpa SBF) Burial rites by Masonic Lodge of New Hope
