Court Houses of Owsley County

The first Courthouse photo known. This is the Courthouse that burned in 1929. According to Abijah Gilbert in a letter written to the Louisville Courier Journal ca 1864 "The rebels have set fire to the jail and cut up the records strewing the pieces in the streets"

The 2nd Courthouse was built by the WPA. It burned in 1967, the cause of the fire was unknown. It reportedly started in the clock tower.
