Directions to the Longfield Cemetery

Owsley County, Kentucky

At the Right hand fork of Upper Buffalo.

Take Route 28 from Booneville or Buckhorn, go to Route 2024, go south till you come to a split in the road directly in front of you there will be the old Bee Branch Schoolhouse.  Turn right, this will be the right hand fork of Buffalo Creek.  Go up this branch until you come to another split, hand to the left.  Take this to a  low water bridge.  This bridge is approximately 7 miles from the Bee Branch Schoolhouse.  The bridge sets in an S Curve.  After you cross the bridge, go approximately 45 feet on the south side or right side of the road.  There is a telephone pole marked #N128.  Looking to the left of the pole, approximately 130 yards up the hill is the Longfield Cemetery.  Look for gray ribbons randomly tied to trees.

Longfield Cemetary, Right Hand Fork of Upper Buffalo Creek, Owsley County. We were told by some older Couch's that there were about 90 graves up there. A. B. Couch reported that he helped carry the casket of the last person buried in the Longfield Cemetary. This was about 1940.

On April 28, 2001 Marion and Martha Couch, their son William Couch, Pat and Benjamin Couch, Ricky Couch, and Diana and Dawn Wells trod and transcribed the Longfield Cemetary. Marion Couch hand carved new stones for Elijah and Elizabeth Estep Couch.  The stones were pulled up on a dolly and put into place. The new stones were then dedicated and prayer was held. The prayer was one said daily by Elizabeth Estep Couch's daughter-in-law, Sally Collins Estep.

There were 59 unreadable or unmarked graves.

On Saturday November 19th, 200l, after getting permission from the proper authorities, Marion and
Martha Couch,  Benjamin and Pat Couch, and Diana and Dawn Wells, cleared brush and debris from
Long Field Cemetery in Owsley County.   Many stones were just below the ground surface and using
care we gently loosened earth and set up stones.   Marion and Benjamin worked very hard at
